Buying a Motorcycle
The snow is melting and the salt slowly finds its way off our roads and for you that means the bike is coming out for the season. Does it get any better than cruising your bike on one of Nova Scotia’s beautiful drives, be it the through the Highlands of Cape Breton, along the shore in Eastern Passage and the South Shore, or perhaps old Highway 1 in the Valley is the place for you. There is no doubt after a long winter driving in your car or truck, it is great to get back on the saddle!
Once you have gone over your bike a hundred times making sure it is clean and all tuned up for the open road you need to consider your Motorcycle Insurance. None of us particularly enjoy this topic as it always seems a little pricy. You made sure your pride and joy have the right fluids and air pressure, now you need to be sure you have the right coverage on it.
At the end of the day you own a motorcycle and it is important to have the proper insurance to protect you and your machine. So before you hit that open road give us a call at anyone of our 19 locations or start the process right here on our website and see what we can provide you for motorcycle insurance.
However before you buy you may have some questions like:
- Is my motorcycle covered under my auto insurance?
- How can I get discounts on my motorcycle insurance?
- If my motorcycle is stored in my basement or garage is it covered under my home insurance?
- What is Vacation Expense? Do I have it now?
- How does Driving Record Protector work?
- What is Replacement Cost?
Is my motorcycle covered under my auto insurance?
Your motorcycle could be covered under you auto insurance policy if you have requested to have it added and your current carrier will even accept your motorcycle to be added to your policy. That’s right some insurance providers will not provide coverage for certain types of bikes or if your motorcycle has over 1000 cc they may not list it. Here at A.A. Munro Insurance we have access to the Road Wings Motorcycle program that can provide you with the coverage you need on your Cruiser Motorcycle that many companies either won’t insure at all or will at a very high premium. We can also provide coverage for your sport bikes that can often be very hard to find appropriate coverage for at a reasonable premium.
How can I get discounts on my motorcycle insurance?
There are different discounts that can apply to your motorcycle insurance. Having steady insurance history for 3-5 years can add a discount to some motorcycle insurance policies. Also having more than one motorcycle listed on a particular policy will also add a discount in most situations. The most important thing you can do to get all your available discounts and keep your motorcycle premiums lower is to keep it clean! No accidents and no convictions!
If my motorcycle is stored in my basement or garage is it covered under my home insurance?
In a word no! A good rule of thumb is, if it has to be or can be registered at the Department of Motor Vehicles (DMV) then it won’t be covered under your homeowners insurance policy and requires its own insurance policy to be covered.
What is Vacation Expense? Do I have it now?
As mentioned before, here at A.A. Munro Insurance we have access to the Road Wings Motorcycle Insurance program. Included in the program is Vacation Expense at no cost to you! Vacation Expense will pay for things like a hotel room, additional travel cost or perhaps a flight home if something where to happen to your motorcycle while on the road with your bike. If you’re wondering if you have this coverage now, your best bet is to call one of our Insurance Specialists at any one of our 19 locations and ask them about your current motorcycle insurance policy.
How does Driving Record Protector work?
It is simple really, if you qualify for the Driving Record Protector and you have it added to your motorcycle insurance policy and you have an accident and it is deemed your fault, you will keep your perfect driving record that you have worked so hard to obtain. For more details on how you would qualify for Driving Record Protector on your motorcycle insurance policy contact any one of our 19 offices.
What is Replacement Cost?
Most motorcycle policies provide coverage on an Actual Cash Value basis which includes such things as depreciation. We can provide you with coverage called 43r which is waiver of depreciation. This insures that if an accident does occur and your motorcycle is written off within the first 2 years of purchasing the motorcycle, we will replace the bike with no depreciation.
