NS Healthcare Hero: Hannah Mertin

“Hannah Mertin is a primary care paramedic in Tatamagouche. At 19 she started her career in Cape Breton, moving a long way from home all by herself to pursue the career she wanted. She loved her time there, but when the opportunity to move closer to home came up she did.

She is always accepting overtime shifts to help with the shortage of paramedics. She never complains when her shifts run into overrun and she is late getting home, missing family events, or not getting time to stop and eat. She continues to do her job with a compassion and professionalism.

She loves her job and enjoys working with the other professionals in her field. All paramedics deserve to be recognized for the compassion and care they provide, as they are all heroes, but I feel Hannah has worked hard to accomplish all that she has so far in her career and at 22 who knows where her career will take her. I feel she is deserving of being named a hero.”
