NS Healthcare Hero: Jonathan Oakley

“My nomination is my good friend Jonathan Oakley. He graduated paramedic school in 2016 and has been working for EHS since shortly after that. For years before going to paramedic school, he worked as ski patrol at Ski Ben Eoin in Cape Breton. He has always had a passion for helping others in need and now he serves that mission daily.

Born and raised in Marion Bridge, he is now a member of the local fire department as well serving his community as a volunteer fire and and medical responder. He lives the role of “healthcare hero” on a daily basis in more than one discipline.

He is worthy of this nomination—anyone that has had the privilege to work with him would tell you the same. I can speak to his work ethic as I worked alongside him as ski patrol, and we started and graduated paramedic school together. Although I never worked for EHS, I have had Jon respond to my residence to care for my grandfather on more than one occasion.

He is dedicated to his patients’ care, and strives to learn more and stay on top of the latest advancements in his scope of practice. As a father and as a man working in a field that rarely sees its employees thanked for the selfless work they do, I know Jon could really use the reward.”
