NS Healthcare Hero: Lee Norman

“I would like to nominate my hero, Lee Norman. He has been a paramedic for approximately 25 years. He is also a Red Cross Instructor and LPN. Healthcare is truly a huge part of ever aspect of his life from the time he could volunteer as a St. John ambulance brigade at events around Sydney to current day being an MFR facilitator volunteer for Southern Victoria and Inverness counties and a volunteer fire fighter in Baddeck. He goes to fire departments to ensure they are trained to the highest quality and strongly believes they are a huge part of patient care.

As an intermediate care paramedic he treats his patients with care and compassion. He ensures the best care is given and goes above and beyond to his patients. He makes people feel relaxed and well cared for in the worst times and in basic transfers. Every call to him is as important as the first or the next. He has been known to bring tea/coffee/newspapers/treats to his patients on his breaks. He can make you laugh even when there is nothing to laugh about. He is what a paramedic needs and should be. Nova Scotia healthcare is in bad shape but knowing he is out there making a difference, big or small, to someone every day, makes him a hero in my books!”
